Julio Visquerra

Born in 1943 in Olanchito, Honduras. Visquerra graduated from the National Fine Arts School in 1965. In 1966 he began his extended art training in Europe, and has since been presented in more than 20 solo exhibitions in Europe, the United States and Latin America. His works are found internationally in private and corporate collections such as Harvard University and the Museum of Fine Arts of Mexico.

Visquerra builds three artistic styles into each work of art: Renaissance, Baroque and Surrealism. The ingredients of the renaissance are found in the grooming of the figures; Baroque impacts can be appreciated in the plethora of details and intensity of the colors; Surrealism is present in the paradoxical use of fruit, vegetables and animals in his themes. According to Visquerra: "fruit, vegetables, humans and animals are the principal elements in my paintings. My intention is to illustrate through nature the defects of the human being. The fear of showing ourselves as we truly are hides itself in bracelets, pearls and armor, superfluous ornaments that give us a false appearance. These closed or covered eyes don't let us see the reality of life or that penetrating look that undresses us."
